Isabel Conde de Frankenberg, a sophomore at Cedar Park High in Texas and the reigning University Interscholastic League 5A state champion in cross country and the 3,200 meters, joins DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss the upcoming postseason schedule, which begins Oct. 14 with the district meet, in addition to reflecting on her exceptional regular-season efforts at the Woodbridge Cross Country Classic and McNeil Invitational. Conde de Frankenberg revisits her 3-mile performance Sept. 18 in the Bob Day sweepstakes race at Woodbridge, clocking 15:59.5 to place fourth in the race, in addition to becoming the only sophomore in the country this season to eclipse the 16-minute barrier and one of just two 10th-graders and one of only Texas female athletes in meet history to achieve the feat. She also speaks about the experience of traveling to California with her Cedar Park teammates and how meaningful the Timberwolves' senior class has been, along with how significant the freshman newcomers have been this season. Conde de Frankenberg examines her recovery from that meet, in addition her preparation for competing Sept. 25 at the McNeil Invitational and producing the fastest 5-kilometer mark of her career to edge McKenzie Bailey of Georgetown by a 17:07.6 to 17:08.2 margin. She analyzes the opportunities to race against Bailey and Anastacia "ChaChi" Gonzales of Boerne Champion during 5A district, regional and state competition, as well as the potential to participate in Foot Locker South Regional and possibly the national meet, if those events remain on the schedule after Nike Cross Nationals was canceled again this year. Conde de Frankenberg explains how she benefited from being the youngest of four siblings, and how her sister Candelaria, along with brothers Augusto and Octavio, helped develop her competitive side and her appreciation for running at a young age. She also expresses gratitude to her parents Mariano and Adriana, along with Texas Thunder coach Robert Roddy and Cedar Park coach Chance Edwards, for creating competitive opportunities and for helping her prepare to race against elite athletes from across the country. Conde de Frankenberg shares her appreciation for nature and being outdoors, her passion for photography that her mother inspired at a young age, along with celebrating the family animals, including ducks, fish, dogs and chickens, the latter of which produce eggs that she enjoys eating daily.
