Jude Alvarez, a senior at Southlake Carroll High in Texas and a member of last year's 6A state championship lineup that also won the NXR South title and placed 20th at Nike Cross Nationals, joins DyeStat's Keenan Gray to discuss the Dragons being one of eight nationally ranked programs scheduled to compete Sept. 16 in the Doug Speck boys sweepstakes race at the 42nd Woodbridge Cross Country Classic presented by ASICS America at Orange County Great Park in Irvine, Calif. Alvarez finished 12th in the rated race last season at Woodbridge, covering the 3-mile layout in 14:44.4, helping the Southlake Carroll 'B' team prevail by a 143-183 margin against the 'B' lineup from Herriman High in Utah. Southlake Carroll also took third in the sweepstakes race with 160 points, trailing Herriman at 117 points and Crater High from Oregon with 139 points. All three programs are scheduled to return to compete in the sweepstakes race again Sept. 16 at Orange County Great Park. Southlake Carroll ran a team time at Woodbridge last season of 73:09 to become the fastest Texas program in meet history, along with the third-fastest program at Orange County Great Park and No. 9 all-time from all courses combined.
