Samantha McDonnell, a senior at Newbury Park High, finished second in the Bob Day girls varsity sweepstakes race, covering the 3-mile course in 15:54.6 at the 40th Woodbridge Cross Country Classic presented by ASICS at the SilverLakes Sports Complex in Norco. McDonell helped Newbury Park secure its first girls sweepstakes title with a 124-130 victory over Lewisville Flower Mound High from Texas, in addition to producing the third-fastest female performance in meet history.
